Electrónica en Abril is La Casa Encendida’s longest-running festival with more than 20 editions behind it. In its twenty-first edition, the festival changes its curatorship cycle to continue exploring the most avant-garde trends in contemporary electronic music.
Elisa Luengo takes over for the next three years of the festival. In her first proposal, she will be looking at the limits of the genre to move away from a classical conception of electronic music and explore its intersection with popular and traditional music. The programme responds to the changing musical and sociological context. Electronic music has gone from being a subculture to being fully integrated into the global scene, following the same path that genres such as jazz and rock have taken.
Among others, Colin Self, an American musician based in Berlin, who presented for the first time “GASP!”, a performative show featuring a local amateur choir, took part in the festival. Abdullah Miniawy & Maurice Louca, two of the most prolific artists on the Egyptian experimental scene. This year the festival also includes a music production workshop led by Merca Bae and a round-table discussion on the state of the Madrid electronic scene.
