The Gumboot Trio from the Vana Ba Afrika cultural community is made up of three femininities: Zandile from South Africa, Adjoua from Ghana, and Njeri from Kenya. They use the Gumboot dance, which was born in the gold mines of South Africa, when workers used the rubber boots that white factory owners forced them to wear to communicate, as they were forbidden to speak. The boots, hitting the ground, create powerful sounds, which are combined with rhythmic dance steps, being a means of resistance and expression.
The Gumboot Trio enhances feminine solidarity and showcases African cultural heritage through music and dance, highlighting the union of body and sound as a symbol of strength and resistance.
