ABOUT

We are redefining the future of the music industry while reshaping the present for artists, curators and producers.

TMLAB is a three-year cooperation project that aims to support and empower emerging artists from underrepresented communities. From Athens to Turin, Madrid to Lyon, and Brussels, the Transnational Music Lab (TMLAB) aims to shake the ground of Europe’s music scene, breaking every boundary and limit. This project focuses on supporting emerging and up-and-coming artists and curators from diverse backgrounds, providing opportunities for growth and further development of their careers.

The program serves as a basis for artists and curators to reclaim their narratives and challenge the historical structures that have shaped the music landscape to date. Through live events, tours, and radio shows, TMLAB showcases the ever-evolving music scenes across Europe, while also challenging the inequalities that currently define the music landscape.

TMLAB partners include: Stegi radio (Greece), C2C Festival (Italy), Kiosk Radio (Belgium), Arty Farty (France), and La Casa Encendida (Spain)

TMLAB Equality and Sustainability Statement

The European music landscape is a vibrant ecosystem of diverse cultures, genres, and artistic expressions. Historically, the music industry has faced persistent issues related to representation and inclusivity. Marginalized communities often remain on the periphery of mainstream recognition. This lack of diversity not only perpetuates inequality but also stifles the potential for innovation and creativity within the music ecosystem. This deficiency in a supportive infrastructure restricts the development of talent from migrant, transgender, queer, economically disadvantaged, and digitally marginalized communities.

To address these gaps, TMLAB is implementing a comprehensive Equality Strategy to ensure gender balance, inclusiveness, and representation throughout all project actions. The consortium, drawn on the partners’ collective expertise, has curated a series of impactful initiatives to promote diversity and inclusiveness at both local and international levels:

TMLAB is also committed to environmental sustainability by presenting a Sustainable Travel Framework that emphasizes both environmental responsibility and accessibility. The project aims to reduce carbon emissions while ensuring fair access to travel for participants with disabilities. By prioritizing low-carbon transportation methods whenever feasible, TMLAB promotes sustainable and inclusive mobility.

In line with the European Green Deal, which calls for a 90% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from transport by 2050, TMLAB is designed as a hybrid project. It combines physical performances at local events and festivals to build local audiences and increase visibility, with an online community radio platform to showcase emerging talent worldwide. Nearly 50% of project activities are designed to avoid international travel or physical events, promoting sustainable practices within the creative industries. This strategy applies to all TMLAB staff, partners, curators, volunteers, and participants. It guides decisions on travel, event planning, and hybrid meeting formats, balancing sustainability with accessibility.
